Catamaran Gambit

Catamaran Gambit is a 2008, 50’ Lagoon catamaran offering crewed yacht charters in the BVI. She features a raised seating area, crew of 2 and accommodations for up to 8 guests in 3 Queen cabins plus 1 upper/lower Twin cabin. Catamaran Gambit is a Carefree Yacht Charters affordable pick for families, couples, divers or special occasions.

Here's what Doug & Val told Carefree Yacht Charters about life and charters on Gambit: "Living aboard Gambit, and the experience we offer charter guests, is a life style choice, as opposed to a job. We have no real retirement plans, no home base elsewhere. What we strive to achieve with each and every charter, is an extension of that freedom for their week aboard."

Noteworthy Details: Gambit and her crew of Doug and Val took the award for "Runner Up for Best Multihull Under 57 Feet" at the November, 2018 crewed charter yacht show in the BVI.

Rates from $24,000 to $29,000. View availability and rate details.

What Our Carefree Clients Said

A family that we booked aboard 50' Catamaran Gambit for Christmas 2021 said: Dear Lynne, You have serviced our family for many years but this trip you outdid yourself!!! Covid threw its own set of problems into the mix which required you to prepare us for all the U.S and British requirements. Your relationship with Michelle (at Island Time Water Taxi), plus Doug and Val made for a wonderful team. Each of you played a big part in allowing our family to have a wonderful holiday. Best, Michael B., California

Reviews from our Carefree Clients

A group of couples that we booked aboard 50' Catamaran Gambit in May 2022 said:

Hi Lynne,

Of the eight guests in this charter, TJ and I were the least involved with planning/communications with Carefree Yacht Charters. The emails you sent were informative and we have no recommendations. We appreciate Carefree Yacht Charters working with us on the re-bookings due to COVID.

Doug and Val graciously provided us with a treasured and memorable holiday. TJ and I appreciated their open communication on things such as Gambit protocol, itinerary options, and evaluation of our scuba skills. During our stay, they tenaciously pulled off the arduous task of accommodating four couples with sometimes different interests. One of Doug and Val's most impressive traits is their patience and dedication to providing the experience of a lifetime to their guests. Their sailing knowledge and experience in the British Virgin Islands afforded extraordinary cruising under sail, snorkels, scuba dives, hikes, and/or shore excursions each day. One of our treasured memories is Doug serenading the sunset on his Conch Shell Horn- truly magical!

Val's talent and training in culinary skills were evident. Every meal reminded us of a Michelin 3-star (out of 3) restaurant experience. And I appreciated their conscious effort toward sustainability (tableware, stainless steel straws, yeti water bottles, cloth napkins/tablecloths, instead of single-use plastic and paper items). The Gambit is pristine, efficiently organized, and comfortable. This holiday had to be rescheduled twice due to COVID restrictions. That Doug and Val honored our 2020 booking in the inflated economy of 2022 is reflective of their character. If we were to vacation in the BVI's again, spending a week on the Gambit with Doug and Val would be our first choice.

Best Regards,

Mary K., Tennessee

A repeat client and family group that we booked aboard Gambit for Christmas 2021 copied us in on this:

Dear Doug and Val,

The hardest part of our holiday on Gambit was not the airline delays, missing bag, swimmer’s ear, or the myriad of small problems that arose along the way. It was saying goodbye to the two of you. You are each wonderful both in your own ways and as a team. We cannot stop talking about Val’s meals, in variety, taste and presentation. Each a masterpiece of beauty and taste. Doug’s guidance as to the best snorkeling, care for the comfort of all of us, and especially Honeya, was fantastic. We all loved seeing the two of you set sail or tie up to buoy. The two of you are so in sync and skilled, it was akin to watching a ballet. It looks so simple but we knew that it was because of your many years of experience. You left nothing undone to make our holiday special. We greatly appreciated Doug’s kind advice about getting to the Gambit and ceasing my focus on the lost bag, making a reservation at the restaurant on Saba Rock, cocktails before dinner, stories of travels, a bit of South African politics, and general good will.

Gambit herself also receives high marks. The two of you run a very clean, comfortable and well maintained boat. It is a lovely home with all one’s necessities, including a scrap of twine when I was in need. The Barths’ ate, drank, swam, played, slept and conversed well. You made lemonade out of what could have been lemons and the result was well worth the squeeze. Feel free to use us as a reference. Any traveler would be well served to be on Gambit, so long as the two of you are at the helm. With a great deal of appreciation for all you gave to us, especially of yourselves, I remain very cordially,

Michael B., California

A repeat group of couples that we booked aboard 50' Catamaran Gambit in January 2020 said:

Hi Lynne,

My apologies for the slight delay in responding...we hit the ground running after a blissful vacation on Gambit. I must say, the Gambit pace is preferable!

I can only speak for myself, but I loved every minute of our time with Doug and Val. They are charming, interesting, caring people who are so clearly dedicated to creating a memorable guest experience. It was such fun to make a return visit and to know exactly what to expect so that we could fall into true relaxation as soon as we stepped aboard.

Gambit, (and Doug & Val) seem to be reverse aging. Everything is sparkling clean, well organized, beautifully appointed, and as comfortable as any home. The new bar area is such fun and garnered quite a few compliments from passers by.

We opted for a more low key itinerary this year and Doug took great care in helping us plan around some often challenging weather conditions to secure beautiful and secluded anchorages. We enjoyed the slower pace and spent hours floating, paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking, puzzling, and reading, stopping only for one of Val’s delicious meals and a refill from bartender Doug. One new fun addition was the nightly Left, Right, and Center game...we tallied the scores and at the end of the week crowned a winner. (ME!)

Thank you again for pairing us so perfectly last year.  Getting to know Doug and Val, and having the privilege of being aboard Gambit twice has been such a treat.  I would highly recommend this experience.

Warmly,

Meg C., Virginia
